Director of Catering Sales, Cultural Destinations

Centerplate, a Sodexo company, is seeking a seasoned professional Director of Catering Sales, Cultural Destinations to join our award-winning team at the Museum of Science & Industry in Chicago, IL.

As the Director of Catering Sales, Cultural Destinations, you will lead multiple sales managers in selling of space within this premier venue, the development, implementation and measurement of the revenue objectives in the annual marketing plan. You will manage and direct the sales team selling internal and external catering/event business and may actively book and manage select clients.

The successful candidate will:
  • drive profitable top-line catering sales by prospecting for new business and ensuring existing customer relations;
  • work in tandem with marketing manager and museum marketing teams to create and implement new engagement strategies and annual marketing plan;
  • develop multiple sales managers to sharpen their skills and leadership abilities;
  • revenue forecasting, competitive analysis;
  • spearhead proposal development, menu and contract negotiation;
  • lead and create content for weekly sales meetings;
  • oversee daily sales functions and event supervision;
  • maintain an excellent track record of maintaining budgetary allotments, meeting sales goals, and exceeding guests’ expectations in satisfaction;
  • generate new business and organic growth by developing strategic relationships;
  • prepare Marketing Plan that will increase awareness and positive perception of the facility, its activities and services; and/or
  • build company awareness through attendance at trade shows and or other industry functions for the purposes of increasing sales revenue.

Position Summary
Develops and coordinates a sales team to achieve unit sales goals in the area of assignment, e.g., conference centers, cultural destinations. Creates a marketing strategy to promote the unit brand. Creates a sales plan and develops sales leads for new and repeat business. Responsible for individual and team sales quota attainment. Collaborates with client and/or operations on event details.


Basic Education Requirement - Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
Basic Management Experience - 5 years
Basic Functional Experience - 3 years
